GovDeals Buying Guide for Used Clinical Equipment
GovDeals Buying Guide for Used Clinical Equipment
GovDeals is one of the largest auction sources for surplus clinical equipment in the United States. Hospitals, government agencies, and universities use it to liquidate retired assets. Prices skew lower than dealer marketplaces but condition is the buyer's responsibility.
What You'll Find There
- Imaging (C-arms, ultrasound, MRI/CT components)
- Patient monitors and telemetry
- Ventilators and anesthesia machines
- Lab analyzers and centrifuges
- Surgical and procedural carts
Reading a GovDeals Listing
Pay attention to:
1. Condition code — "Usable", "Parts Only", "Salvage". These are seller-self-reported. 2. Inspection availability — many lots allow scheduled inspection; always go in person or send a biomed tech for high-value items. 3. Photos vs description — text descriptions are often minimal; photos carry more information. 4. Removal terms — buyer arranges loadout, frequently within 10 business days; budget for rigging and freight. 5. Functional warranty — there is none. Items sell as-is.

- Per-source breakdown showing dealer vs auction pricing
- Coverage grade (Strong / Good / Thin)
Before You Bid
- Check the device's openFDA recall status — Clinical Asset Index surfaces matched recall records inline on every device page.
- Verify the model matches the price-guide peer group (a part is not a complete system).
- Use the Verify a Listing tool to compare the listing URL against current peer-group medians and risk signals.
